i poczuł, że czas ruszać w drogę. Taki wymarsz jest zawsze nagły. W jednej chwili
wszystko się zmienia, temu, kto odchodzi, zależy na każdej minucie, (...) w biegu
zarzuca plecak, i wreszcie jest już na drodze, raptem spokojny niczym wędrujące
drzewo, na którym nie rusza się ani jeden liść. (...)"

Włóczykij szedł coraz szybciej, prosto w stronę lasu. Wtedy w ostatnim domu
ktoś uchylił drzwi i bardzo stary głos zawołał:
- Dokąd idziesz?
- Nie wiem – odpowiedział Włóczykij.
Drzwi zamknęły się i Włóczykij wszedł w las. Miał przed sobą sto mil ciszy.

Postac: Wlóczykij (Snusmumriken) – syn Joka, jest filozofem-wlóczega. Niezalezny, beztroski, nie przywiazuje zbytniej wagi
do jakichkolwiek "dóbr ziemskich". Jest raczej samotnikiem, zamknietym w sobie, jednak w paru przypadkach objawia sie jego
wielkie serce - chocby przez przygarniecie sierot w "Lecie Muminków". Jesienia opuszcza Doline Muminków by odwiedzic inne czesci swiata.
Jest najlepszym przyjacielem Muminka. Nosi wielki kapelusz i stary plaszcz.

Włóczykij (Snufkin) – typ niezależny, który nie podporządkowuje się żadnym nakazom. Jak wskazuje jego imię, za długo w jednym miejscu nie posiedzi.
